When I arrived to Gainesville, Florida, in 1999, there was only a two bed laboratory at the University of Florida and no sleep program at the Malcom Randall VA Hospital. Today, there is an active sleep program at the VA Hospital and a 12 bed sleep center at UF, accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. I am a professor of medicine in the UF Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine and the director of the UF Sleep Medicine Fellowship, which I established with the help of Mary Wagner, MD. I have also served as the medical director for the UF Health Sleep Center from 1999 through 2022.
